The Principal leads the School Executive, who take responsibility for the operations of the school including delivery of the Strategy Plan 2019 – 2031. Responsibility for the day-to-day operations of each campus is vested in the Heads of Campus. A great benefit of our multi-campus school is the ability to draw on the variety of extensive human resource experience across each of our five campuses.
Ashleigh is a strong advocate for values-based leadership and student-led learning. He passionately believes in enabling young people to develop beyond their academic achievements, finding their own individual pathways ready to create their own unwritten futures.
When asked what he loves about his role, Ashleigh doesn’t hesitate to say it’s the privilege of working with young people and helping make a difference in their lives. Every decision that is made can have a direct and lasting effect on students, and as Principal, Ashleigh understands the importance of striking the right balance between business performance and student welfare.
Joining the School in 2012 as the Caulfield Campus Head of Middle School, he was appointed to the role of Director of Teaching and Learning three years later, and in 2016 was appointed Vice Principal. In 2018, he was appointed the 10th Principal in the School’s 140-year history.
It was as a student at St Patrick’s College in Ballarat from 1988 to 1993, that education started to play an important role in shaping Ashleigh’s professional life. He was the benefactor of strong guidance and leadership, and observed first-hand the influence that such leadership at school has on a young person’s development.
Prior to commencing at Caulfield Grammar School, Ashleigh held an executive position as Head of Middle School at the Australian International School in Singapore for six years. Ashleigh commenced his teaching career at St Kevin’s College, and he openly acknowledges that he was an aspiring Principal from the day he started teaching.
Conscious that the future of education and the future needs of our School are ever changing, Ashleigh led the development of Strategy Plan 2019 – 2031, a reimagining of Caulfield Grammar School’s future. The plan is grounded in the School Values, retains its strong heritage while driving innovation, and remains focused on providing the best learning opportunities for all students. The wellbeing of all in the School community is at the cornerstone of this strategy.
Ashleigh passionately revisited the School Values, ensuring School community input and engagement. He is particularly proud that students led the development of their own set of behaviours for each Value and leads a school with five unique campuses united by common School Values and Behaviours. A School that knows who it is and what it values.
The egalitarian ethos of Caulfield Grammar is what Ashleigh believes distinguishes it from other schools. He is committed to ensuring that Caulfield Grammar School continues to be a leading co-educational school in Australia.
It was while playing and coaching basketball as a teenager that Andrew understood the profound effect that significant figures can have on young people, their pathways, and their lives. This led him to pursue a career in education and provide the opportunity to be a significant figure in young people’s lives.
After holding the executive positions of Head of Junior School and Associate Principal at Kilvington Girls Grammar School, Andrew joined Caulfield Grammar School in 2000 as Head of Junior School at Wheelers Hill Campus. Following a tenure as Head of Malvern Campus, he was appointed to the role of Vice Principal in mid-2018. This demonstrated his commitment to ensuring processes and procedures are streamlined across the School so that energy and effort is focused on improving student outcomes.
Andrew believes that the most important things that happen in our School are the interactions that our community has with each other. The way we talk to each other, listen to each other, and the way we relate to each other are all critical to a safe, happy and thriving environment. Andrew considers that the behaviours exhibited in these everyday interactions shape and define our School culture, ultimately making it a place where students want to be. Andrew is passionate about fairness and equity, and works across the School to ensure students have access to similar opportunities.
The chance for students to be engaged in a broad range of learning experiences is important to Andrew, as they can provide students with a sense of belonging and the opportunity to shine and show their strengths. He is committed to meeting the needs of the ‘whole’ child as they navigate their journey through junior and secondary years. It’s his strong belief that this is fundamental in preparing young people for a life beyond formal schooling.
Andrew is passionate about the benefits that lifelong physical activity brings, with bike riding and early morning exercise being an important aspect of his daily routine.

Jonathan’s teaching career began in Nauru 1993. Over the next 25 years he was fortunate to call over 10 different schools in 10 different countries home, living and teaching in international schools from the temples of Korea to the desert sands of Qatar, from the magic of Istanbul to the snow-capped mountains of the Swiss Alps.
In 2018 he took on the role of Head of Teaching & Learning at Wheelers Hill Junior and in 2024 became Deputy Head of Wheelers Hill Junior Campus, a role best described as ‘the ultimate puzzler solver’, with a huge focus on the wellbeing of our community.
A big part of what Jonathan does is based on building a strong community that communicates and collaborates with a clear purpose. He enjoys interacting with the parents and caregivers through our ‘Caulfield Connects’ morning tea each term, sessions that incorporate wellbeing strategies to strengthen the relationships between our parents and caregivers, resulting in a strong understanding of who we are and what we stand for, and providing a safe place to laugh or share a concern.
Mary was born in Tasmania and moved to Victoria after finishing her schooling at Launceston Grammar School. Her own positive school experience and having both parents as teachers inspired her to enter the education profession.
Since completing her Diploma of Teaching – Early Childhood at the Institute of Early Childhood Education, Mary has worked in the early childhood field and at a variety of independent schools for over 30 years. She was chair of the IPSHA early childhood group for seven years and recently established a Directors Network for Early Childhood leaders.
Mary began at Caulfield Grammar in 2017 and thoroughly enjoys her cross-campus role as Head of Early Learning Centre at Malvern and Wheelers Hill campuses. One of her greatest joys is the day-to-day interactions with young children, and as an early childhood educator she is passionate about the importance of play in children’s learning. She loves that Caulfield Grammar values and celebrates the learning of young children and recognises the importance of early childhood education.
Mary and her family moved to the Mornington Peninsula at the end of 2000. She enjoys weekend walks along the beach and through the surrounding bushland.
Sarah leads a passionate team of educators at our Yarra Junction Campus. She has been Head of Campus since 2023 after holding numerous roles across Caulfield Grammar’s metropolitan campuses, including as a PE teacher and, most recently, as Deputy Head of Campus – Wheelers Hill Secondary.
Sarah is a keen long-distance runner, competing in the last two Athletics World Championships Marathon events and placing 14th and 41st. She makes the most of the trails and tracks that surround the campus, often recruiting staff and students to join her for a jog.
Sarah has a passion for personal growth and learning that can be achieved through adventure-based and outdoor education, and for the way young people can transform through such experiences. She is looking forward to the evolution of the Yarra Junction Campus and its Education Outdoor programs over the coming years.
John has thoroughly enjoyed his career in the education sector in Victoria, working across various roles to inspire and support young people. With a deep passion for adventure education and experiential learning, he believes in the power of hands-on experiences to shape confident, resilient individuals and communities. Whether leading outdoor expeditions or facilitating immersive learning opportunities, John thrives on seeing students grow through challenge and discovery.
John loves calling Yarra Junction home, where he lives with his young family, embracing the beauty of the outdoors every day. An avid trail runner, John is often spotted tackling the local tracks. His love of movement and adventure extends beyond the trails, with a particular passion for hot air ballooning. The thrill of floating above the landscape at sunrise perfectly complements his appreciation for both nature and new perspectives.
Dedicated to inspiring the next generation, John continues to combine his love for education, adventure and community in everything he does. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious as he works with Head of YJ Campus Sarah Klein on the development of YJ, bringing new opportunities and experiences to the Caulfield Grammar School community.
